Petr Popelka continues rise in the 2023/24 season


Following a series of successful debuts across the last year, Petr Popelka looks forward to an exciting 2023/24 season, starting next month with his Opera Zurich debut. Petr conducts a revival of Sebastian Baumgarten’s 2013 production of Don Giovanni, running from Saturday 23 September to Saturday 14 October.

Petr will also conduct the Wiener Symphoniker in over 20 performances as their Chief Conductor Designate, across two European tours, in Vienna, and a new production of Weinberger’s Schwanda the Bagpiper, which opens at the Theater an der Wien on Monday 20 November.

2023/24 marks another season of significant orchestral debuts for Petr, which include: the Gewandhausorchester, Munich Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre national de France and Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse, as well as returns to the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

Petr made his French debut last month with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse at Le Festival Radio France, Occitanie Montpellier, and you can listen back to the broadcast of this performance here. He will return to the conduct the orchestra next season, joined by cellist Truls Mørk, for a programme of works by Dvořák, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev.
