Debut with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig

On Thursday 25 January and Friday 26 January 2024, Petr Popelka makes his debut with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig in a series of concerts at the Gewandhaus.

Commencing with Dvořák’s The Wild Dove, this rich and diverse programme continues with Mahler’s deeply moving Kindertotenlieder, for which Petr will be joined by Italian baritone André Schuen. The concert culminates in Brahms Piano Quartet No. 1, orchestrated by Arnold Schoenberg in 1937 and premiered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of Otto Klemperer.

2024 marks 150 years since the birth of Schoenberg. A composer who has long been close to his heart, Petr will be appearing live on Austrian classical radio programme Klassik-Treffpunkt (Ö1) to discuss Schoenberg’s life and works on Saturday 17 February.  Further details to be announced shortly.
